Melanotan 1 (afamelanotide) is a synthetic analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, studied as a selective MC1-receptor agonist in pigmentation and photoprotection research. Supplied lyophilised for laboratory research use only.
Melanotan 1 (also known as afamelanotide) is a synthetic analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Compared with Melanotan 2 it is studied as a more selective MC1-receptor agonist, focusing its activity on the pigmentation pathway.
By activating MC1R on melanocytes it is studied for stimulation of eumelanin synthesis and for photoprotective effects; the same molecule has been developed clinically for the light-sensitivity disorder erythropoietic protoporphyria.
| Area | Reported research focus |
|---|---|
| Pigmentation | MC1R-driven eumelanin synthesis. |
| Photoprotection | UV-response and skin-protection models. |
| Receptor selectivity | MC1-focused vs non-selective melanocortin activity. |

Every production batch is sent for independent, third-party analysis at Janoshik Analytical. When results return, the full Certificate of Analysis for the exact batch you receive is published here and in our COA library, carrying its SHA-256 checksum and the lot number printed on your vial, so you can confirm the document is genuine and untampered. We publish every certificate, including any that fail.
