Why does the vial look empty?
That’s normal. The peptide is supplied lyophilised (freeze-dried) — often a thin film or a few milligrams at the base of the vial, easy to mistake for empty. It’s all there; reconstitute with bacteriostatic water before use.
Research handling note
Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water and store the lyophilised vial at −20 °C until use; once reconstituted, refrigerate and use within the documented window. For laboratory research purposes only — not for human consumption, diagnostic, or therapeutic use. Need to work out your dilution? Use the reconstitution calculator

Melanotan 1 — research profile

For research purposes only — not for human consumption

Melanotan 1 (also known as afamelanotide) is a synthetic analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Compared with Melanotan 2 it is studied as a more selective MC1-receptor agonist, focusing its activity on the pigmentation pathway.

By activating MC1R on melanocytes it is studied for stimulation of eumelanin synthesis and for photoprotective effects; the same molecule has been developed clinically for the light-sensitivity disorder erythropoietic protoporphyria.

How it’s studied

  • MC1R selectivity: pigmentation-focused melanocortin signalling.
  • Eumelanin synthesis: melanin production in melanocyte models.
  • Photoprotection: UV-response and skin-protection pathways.

Verifiability

Batch Testing & COA

Every production batch is sent for independent, third-party analysis at Janoshik Analytical. When results return, the full Certificate of Analysis for the exact batch you receive is published here and in our COA library, carrying its SHA-256 checksum and the lot number printed on your vial, so you can confirm the document is genuine and untampered. We publish every certificate, including any that fail.
