Why does the vial look empty?
That’s normal. The peptide is supplied lyophilised (freeze-dried) — often a thin film or a few milligrams at the base of the vial, easy to mistake for empty. It’s all there; reconstitute with bacteriostatic water before use.
Research handling note
Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water and store the lyophilised vial at −20 °C until use; once reconstituted, refrigerate and use within the documented window. For laboratory research purposes only — not for human consumption, diagnostic, or therapeutic use. Need to work out your dilution? Use the reconstitution calculator

SS-31 — research profile

For research purposes only — not for human consumption

SS-31 (also known as elamipretide) is a mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide from the Szeto-Schiller peptide family. It concentrates on the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it binds the phospholipid cardiolipin — a molecule essential to the organisation of the electron-transport chain.

Research reports that by stabilising cardiolipin, SS-31 helps preserve the efficiency of the electron-transport chain, supports ATP production and reduces excess reactive-oxygen-species output — the focus of interest in mitochondrial-dysfunction and cellular-aging models.

How it’s studied

  • Cardiolipin binding: stabilisation of inner-membrane structure.
  • Bioenergetics: electron-transport-chain efficiency and ATP output.
  • Oxidative stress: reduction of excess reactive-oxygen species.
  • Mitochondrial dysfunction: disease and aging models.

Verifiability

Batch Testing & COA

Every production batch is sent for independent, third-party analysis at Janoshik Analytical. When results return, the full Certificate of Analysis for the exact batch you receive is published here and in our COA library, carrying its SHA-256 checksum and the lot number printed on your vial, so you can confirm the document is genuine and untampered. We publish every certificate, including any that fail.
