A peptide is a short chain of amino acids. Research peptides are made by solid-phase synthesis, purified by HPLC, and freeze-dried into a stable powder for laboratory study — supplied for in-vitro research only.

Glossary

Peptide

A short chain of amino acids (roughly 2–50) joined by peptide bonds. Shorter than a protein.

Amino acid

The building blocks of peptides and proteins. The order they're joined in defines the peptide's sequence.

Sequence

The specific order of amino acids in a peptide. It determines the peptide's identity and properties.

SPPS solid-phase peptide synthesis

The standard way research peptides are made: amino acids are added one at a time onto a resin support, then cleaved and purified.

Lyophilised freeze-dried

Dried under vacuum at low temperature into a stable powder ("cake"). How peptides are shipped for stability.

Reconstitution

Dissolving a lyophilised peptide back into liquid by adding a measured volume of solvent, usually bacteriostatic water.

Bacteriostatic water

Sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The most common solvent for reconstituting research peptides; the preservative lets you draw from the vial more than once.

Aliquot

To split a reconstituted solution into smaller single-use portions, so the rest can be stored without repeated freeze–thaw.

Net peptide content NPC

The actual mass of active peptide in a vial, separate from moisture, salts and excipients. Used for precise molar calculations.

Purity

The proportion of the target peptide versus all peptide-related species, measured by HPLC. The main quality metric (e.g. 98%+).

HPLC high-performance liquid chromatography

The analytical method used to separate and measure a peptide's purity and detect impurities.

Mass spectrometry MS

An analytical method that confirms a peptide's identity by measuring its molecular mass.

Lot / Batch

A specific production run. Lot-tracking means each vial can be traced back to its batch and its quality data.

Excipient

An inactive added ingredient — for example a bulking agent that stabilises the peptide during freeze-drying.

Mannitol

A common, inert sugar-alcohol excipient used as a bulking agent. It gives a fuller, more uniform cake and doesn't affect purity.

Counter-ion TFA / acetate

Salts left from purification (trifluoroacetate or acetate) that pair with the peptide. Part of the total mass but not active peptide.

Oxidation

A degradation reaction, common in peptides containing methionine or cysteine, that can occur with exposure to air, light or time.

Deamidation

A degradation reaction where certain residues (asparagine, glutamine) slowly convert to other forms over time.

Molar concentration

The amount of substance per volume (moles per litre). Calculated using net peptide content for accuracy.

Blend

A product containing more than one peptide in a single vial, prepared together (for example our Glow Blend).

Copper peptide GHK-Cu

A peptide bound to copper, studied in skin and tissue research.

Nootropic

A descriptor for compounds studied for effects on focus and cognition in research settings (e.g. Selank, Semax).

Vial

The sealed glass container the peptide is supplied in — laboratory-grade glass with a rubber stopper and crimped seal.

In-vitro

Latin for "in glass" — research done in a controlled environment outside a living organism (test tube, culture, plate).
