Ipamorelin: human studies, hormone responses and clinical limits
Sources checked: 22 October 2026.
Ipamorelin is a peptide investigated for growth-hormone release and gastrointestinal effects. Those are separate research questions. A blood hormone response does not establish muscle gain, and a postoperative study does not test performance in healthy athletes. Two human publications illustrate why the actual endpoint matters.
The hormone-response study
Gobburu and colleagues, 1999 measured Ipamorelin and growth hormone in healthy male volunteers. The escalation design had five levels with eight participants at each level. The authors modelled the relationship between material concentrations and the hormone response, reporting a terminal half-life of approximately two hours under their study conditions. This describes the concentration curve; it is not a recommended interval for use.
A trial with a different clinical endpoint
Beck and colleagues, 2014 conducted a multicentre, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase-2 trial in adults undergoing bowel resection. Of 117 enrolled patients, 114 were included in the safety and modified intention-to-treat populations. The key efficacy endpoint was time to tolerance of a standardised solid meal after the first study treatment.
Read the comparison as well as the numbers
| Result | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| 25.3 versus 32.6 hours | Median time to the first tolerated meal in the Ipamorelin and placebo groups. |
| p = 0.15 | The difference did not reach conventional statistical significance. |
| Key and secondary efficacy analyses | The authors reported no significant differences between groups. |
| 87.5% versus 94.8% | Participants with treatment-emergent adverse events, not necessarily events caused by the study material. |
What a non-significant result means
The numerically shorter median is not a demonstrated treatment benefit. Equally, lack of statistical significance does not establish that two treatments are identical. Sample size, variability and uncertainty matter. These postoperative patients had a broad range of underlying conditions, so this trial is also a poor basis for claims about recovery from exercise or changes in body composition.
Ipamorelin alone and combination products
The studies above do not test a commercial CJC-1295 + Ipamorelin blend. A combination has its own identity, composition and evidence requirements. Similar ingredient names do not establish equivalent preparation or stability. Claims about muscle growth, fat loss or long-term safety need studies that actually measure those outcomes in the relevant population.
The PP research format
The current catalogue format is Ipamorelin 10 mg; the separate 5 mg format remains unavailable. Total vial mass is not concentration per millilitre. No independent Ipamorelin report is currently published in the PP register, and the clinical papers do not certify a commercial vial. This guide discusses selected primary sources rather than providing a systematic review. PP supplies laboratory research material, not products for human or veterinary use.
