Most of the fraud in the research-peptide market hides inside paperwork rather than inside the vial. A convincing PDF costs nothing to produce, and a purity percentage with no laboratory behind it is a marketing figure. This page is the method we use, written so you can apply it to any supplier you are considering. We have deliberately not ranked or named vendors: a scoreboard published by a seller is a sales document. A method is not.

The eight checks

In order. The first three eliminate most of the market on their own.

    Ask for the certificate before you buy

    Not a brochure claim and not an in-house sheet — a report issued by a named independent laboratory for the material being sold. A supplier who cannot produce one before payment is asking you to buy on trust. The request itself is diagnostic: how it is answered tells you most of what you need to know.

    Check identity, purity and content — all three

    Identity establishes that the material is the named compound, normally by mass spectrometry. Purity, normally by HPLC, describes how much of the peptide-related material is the target. Content (net peptide quantity) tells you how much is actually in the vial, as distinct from total fill weight, which also includes moisture, counter-ions and any bulking agent. A report covering only one of the three leaves the other two unanswered.

    Verify the certificate at the laboratory, not on the page

    Independent labs serving this market issue a task or report number that resolves in their own public database. Look it up yourself. This single step defeats the most common fraud in the category, because a fabricated or edited PDF cannot produce a matching record in someone else's system.

    Read the date

    A certificate is a statement about a batch at a point in time. An undated report, or one substantially older than the stock being sold, cannot be tied to what is currently shipping.

    Ask who the laboratory is — and whether they are independent

    ‘Third-party tested’ with no laboratory named is not a testable claim. In-house testing is not independent testing: the party with a commercial interest in the result should not also be the party producing it.

    Check whether failures are ever published

    Every real testing programme produces occasional failures. A supplier whose published record contains only passes is either extraordinarily lucky, testing very little, or publishing selectively. Ask what happens to a batch that misses target.

    Separate the testing question from the legal one

    A certificate tells you what is in a vial. It does not tell you whether a compound may lawfully be imported where you are, and it is not an import authorisation. Those are separate questions and a supplier who blurs them is not doing you a favour.

What is a Certificate of Analysis for a research peptide?

A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a laboratory report for a specific batch of material. A useful one states the compound's identity (usually by mass spectrometry), its purity (usually by HPLC), the date of analysis, and the issuing laboratory. A document that gives a purity percentage but never establishes identity has not told you what is in the vial.

How do I check whether a COA is genuine?

Do not judge the PDF. Independent laboratories that serve this market issue results with a task or report number that can be looked up in the laboratory's own public database. Enter the number there yourself. If the laboratory's database returns nothing for that number, treat the certificate as if it does not exist, however professional the document looks.

Is 99% purity a meaningful claim on its own?

Not by itself. Purity describes the proportion of the target peptide among peptide-related species in a sample that was actually tested — so it is only meaningful alongside identity (is it the right molecule?), content or net peptide quantity (how much is actually in the vial?), and independent verification. A purity figure with no lab and no verification path is marketing, not data.

What are the clearest warning signs?

A certificate that is undated, unbranded or has no issuing laboratory; a task number that cannot be verified at the lab; a certificate whose header names one compound while the identity result names another; one certificate recycled year after year; testing described only as 'in-house'; or a supplier who will not say which laboratory tested a batch. Any one of these is enough to stop.
